Food for Thought & Thought for Food

By Lauren Archer Finkelstein

Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist & ACE Certified Personal Trainer

In order to truly make a difference – to positively influence the evolution of the planet –

we can serve best when we’re healthy, strong and balanced within ourselves.

In honor of Earth Day, I'd like to offer a few thoughts about food.

In Honor of The Earth, Simply Notice…

Without trying to change your behavior, simply notice the following:

  • Every time you eat something from a package.
  • Every time you eat something processed.
  • Every time you throw something away.
  • What was your food before you ate it?  Where did it come from?
  • How recognizable is your food as a living thing?
  • How did you get your food?  Who prepared it?
  • What’s in your food?  Has it been processed with other substances?
  • How fresh is your food?  Has it been cooked?  How?
  • Where do you eat? Standing up? In the car? At your desk? On the run? At a table? Outdoors? Alone? With friends?
  • What is your state of mind when you eat?  Distracted? Grateful? Other?
  • How much food do you eat?  How often?  Do you expend the amount of energy you take in?
  • How do you intend to utilize or transform the energy of your food?

By simply becoming more aware of the process of eating, and asking ourselves these questions, perhaps we can more easily remember to honor our connection with other living things on the Earth.

Earth Day Food Challenge

For one day, eat nothing from a box or package.

It's not in my scope of practice to recommend a particular diet, yet when you study all of the reputable diet programs, you’ll find one thing in common, with few exceptions:  Eat whole foods with as little processing as possible.  The beauty of this philosophy is that it not only keeps your body functioning at peak performance, but it’s best for the Earth.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and feedback.

Wishing peace and health for you and this beautiful planet Earth,

Lauren
